Year 5 study the Victorians as their autumn topic, and it's thanks to them that we know so much about the history of our school!

me rothwell history 031884 - A School Board was formed. Mr Matthew Henry Langley was the headmaster of the mixed department. It was held in the British School which is now called the Hope Christian Centre. The Infants Mistress was Miss Emily Eliza. May Goodall and the Infants were taught in the Oddfellow's Hall which now belongs to a stone mason called A J Mills.

1886 - A new board school was built here in Gladstone Street. The master of the mixed department was still Mr Langley. The School was built for around £1,200.

me rothwell history 19131889 - Mr Harry Beeston became the master of the mixed department and Mrs Betsy Beston became mistress of the infant's department.

1893 - The school was enlarged at a cost of £200

1896 - Mr Albert Austin became the master of the mixed department. He left in 1908 after he had been there for 12 years.

1898 - The Victoria Board School for infants was built in School Lane.
